How do I buy a miniature horse?

There are miniature horses for sale all over the world. A simple Google search of "miniature horses" can show you that. It can be very overwhelming when you first start looking into purchasing a mini. Here is are some questions you should ask yourself before you buy any horse:

1. What do I want to do with the horse?
2. Do I want to breed, show, or have a pet?
3. If you want to breed, want qualities do you want to breed for? Driving? Show? A certain color or bone structure? Size?

Before you buy a horse, you need to have a plan and know exactly what you want out of the horse. Once you've done a thorough search and can narrow it down to a few horses, you should keep the following in mind:

1. Do you like the horse? Do you like its personality?
2. Pedigree. Does the horse have good bloodlines for what you want to do with it?
3. Confirmation. How's its bone structure? Are its legs straight? Is its bite on? Does its rump fall off? Does it have a dishy head?
4. Color. This should be the last thing you buy for.

Keeping the above in mind will help you tremendously when you're looking for the perfect mini. It's hard not to buy everything you see, especially if you're new to minis. A lot of people start out by buying whatever they think is cute. This is a big, costly mistake. Get in contact with breeders around you, ask a lot of questions, and surround yourself with people that can help you make good decisions until you know enough on your own.

Good luck!
